Welcome to 'Transmitting to Earth'. I'm Charssun and I'll be your host. This blog and podcast is a byproduct of VoyagerRadio.com and is intended to provide the most timely information about this Internet radio station. It is also intended to be a fun and accessible electronic journal with commentary focusing on Internet radio, podcasting and webcasting issues and technologies, music, and some of my other interests. I also offer personal perspective about being an Internet radio broadcaster (and podcaster).

Watch Out, Audible - Here's Comes iPodder!

Today I listened to an interesting conversation on WebTalk Radio regarding a new application everyone seems to be talking about lately, iPodder. iPodder is a software application that allows audio producers to easily make their audio content available for transfer to iPods and other iPod-like audio devices, and for listeners to gather that content with the least amount of hassle. So what makes iPodder different from other ways of distributing audio content? As Audioblog.com founder Eric Rice explained to me this afternoon,
You can use this across countless platforms, music software, mp3 players. The ultimate notion is: I subscribe to an internet radio show that has been posted and whammo! It's on my computer when it's ready.
It was bound to happen--an application that would make the transfer of audio files easier and more seamless than downloading audio at Audible.com.

Perhaps its unfortunate, however, that the name of the application has the potential to confuse many potential listeners who haven't yet realized that iPodder's future isn't exclusively with Apple's iPod; the application will download audio to a variety of audio devices. It is also a cross-platform application, meaning that it will work on Windows, Mac and Linux systems.

Then again, perhaps it's best for iPodder to begin its life associated with Apple's player, a hip and slim device considered by many to be revolutionizing the way music is obtained and listened to. Though time will truly tell, it already appears to be inevitable that iPodder will do the same--and that's great news for audiocasters and listeners alike.
