Welcome to 'Transmitting to Earth'. I'm Charssun and I'll be your host. This blog and podcast is a byproduct of VoyagerRadio.com and is intended to provide the most timely information about this Internet radio station. It is also intended to be a fun and accessible electronic journal with commentary focusing on Internet radio, podcasting and webcasting issues and technologies, music, and some of my other interests. I also offer personal perspective about being an Internet radio broadcaster (and podcaster).

AMP Opens Free Music Library

The Association of Music Podcasting (AMP), in conjunction with a variety of independent recording artists, has just released the AMP Music Library, a repository of information about the artists heard on AMP members' podcasts. AMP currently boasts a membership of more than 50 music podcasters, each podcasting music by independent artists granting permission for their songs to be played in podcasts. The AMP Music Library provides these artists with another way to communicate with their listeners, as well as with a resource for listeners to find out more about the artists they hear on AMP podcasts.

iTunes Cellphone About to be Announced

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is about to officially unveil its widely-rumored iTunes phone, a cellphone that will play songs from Apple's iTunes Music Store. (The actual name of the device, manufactured by Motorola, is currently unknown. Perhaps it will be the iPhone...) Apparently, Cingular will be providing the network; let's hope there will be more economical data-transfer plans than they're currently offering...

Tempo of the Down: Session 04 Released

Session 04 of my podcast, Tempo of the Down, has been released. The podcast includes sixteen tracks by independent downtempo artists. Currently the podcast is available via direct download or by adding the following RSS/podcast feed to your preferred podcatcher app:

http://www.voyagerradio.com/podcast.xml

Track listings are heard near the end of the program, and I'll also be adding the track listings to VoyagerRadio.com, on the Podcast page, where you can also view and access past playlists. Enjoy the downtempo!

Soon, We'll All Be Space Travellers

"Your journey out of this world begins not on the launch pad like a conventional space rocket but on a runway..."

It's official - Virgin Galactic has been issued the green light. By the end of the decade, anyone (who can afford it) will be able to become a space traveller, courtesy of a join effort between Virgin and Scaled Composites.

Podcasting to Earth? Been There, Done That

NASA claims to have transmitted the first podcast from space, but our own Voyager has been podcasting for several months already...

Now That's "Transmitting to Earth"!

Tom Simpson tells us (those of us subscribed to his Wireless HotSpot group) about the ultimate Wifi transmitter, a trailer planted in Utah which has transmitted 125 miles. (Miles!) And to think, I jump for joy whenever my laptop can access my Wifi network from my bathroom a few feet away...

Canis Domesticus Cloned

Man's Best Friend (or worst enemy, if it's that pit bull on a long leash being traipsed around your neighborhood) has been cloned. Now you don't have cry when Old Yeller dies; just pluck some skin cells and start cooking up a genetic soup...
